Delete your MyTravelPal account
Last updated: 2026-10-12
MyTravelPal is a road-trip planning Android app. You can delete your account and the data linked to it at any time. This page describes the two ways to do it (from the app itself and by email), what is deleted and what is kept.
Option 1 — Delete from the app
This is the fastest route. With an Internet connection, the deletion runs immediately on our server.
- Open the MyTravelPal app on your Android device.
- On the Plan screen, tap the gear icon (Settings) in the top bar.
- Expand the Account section and tap Delete my account.
- Read the confirmation prompt and tap Delete forever.
- The app asks the server to delete your data, clears the trips and preferences saved on the device and signs you out.
You will land on the sign-in screen. If you want a copy of your data first, use Download my data in the same Account section.
Important: the app clears the data on the device and signs you out even if it cannot reach the server, and in that case it does not warn you. Delete while connected to the Internet and, if you are unsure the request reached the server, email privacy@mytravelpal.io (option 2) and we will check.
Option 2 — Request by email
If you cannot open the app (for example the phone is lost or you have already uninstalled it), send an email to privacy@mytravelpal.io with:
- Subject: Account deletion request
- The email address you used to sign in (Google)
- Optional: the approximate date of your last sign-in
We reply within 7 working days confirming the deletion. The law requires us to complete the request within 30 days at most. A request by email deletes exactly the same data as option 1.
What is deleted when you delete your account
The deletion runs as a single operation on our server: either everything below is deleted or nothing is, and the server answers with an error if it failed.
- Account record: email address, name, sign-in provider, internal identifier and the dates of sign-up, last sign-in and last activity.
- Profile and everything in it: traveller preferences, AI profile, synced settings, Hall of Fame nickname and country, your places, recent searches, garage vehicles, emergency contacts and the subscription tier with its purchase token.
- Saved trips: every trip on the server, with its selections, the saved plan and the hotel nights you marked, as well as the records of deleted trips.
- Trip monitoring and alerts: monitored trips, their route geometry, their alerts and the alert state.
- Push notification identifiers of your devices.
- Installation records: the random installation identifier, the app version and the date of last activity linked to your account.
- Suggestions you sent: the text, the reply email if you gave one, the version and the language. They are deleted, not anonymised.
- Shared trips: the copies of trips you shared by link are deleted at once, so the links stop working immediately.
- Companion group sessions you created as the driver, including the last position they stored.
- Saved drive summaries (totals and stops) and the learning counters built from the stops you marked.
- Daily call counters linked to your account.
- Local data on the device: trips, drive summaries and preferences saved on the phone, and the session.
A sign-in token issued before the deletion stops working at once (for example on another phone where you were still signed in), so it cannot write anything or bring any of this back. Signing in again creates a new, empty account.
What is kept after deleting your account
- Anonymous usage statistics: the records of calls to external providers (provider, feature, number of units or tokens, estimated cost, date) stay for cost control. The account identifier is removed from them, so they can no longer be linked to you, and they never contained the content of your queries.
- Deletion marker: to make the previous point work we keep, for 31 days, one one-way cryptographic hash of your account identifier together with the time of the deletion. It cannot be reversed to your account, is linked to no other record and is deleted automatically after the 30 days a sign-in token can last.
- Closed-beta invitation list: if you were invited to the closed beta, the invited email address stays on the list that controls who may sign in. It is not linked to any other record. Email privacy@mytravelpal.io if you want it removed.
- Records we must keep by law, if any legal obligation applies to a specific case.
Expired shared trips, expired Companion group sessions and saved drive summaries older than 12 months are also removed automatically by a periodic cleanup, whether or not you delete your account.
Copies we do not control directly
- Database backups made before the deletion may contain your data until they are rotated out (we keep the 14 most recent, so up to 14 days). We do not restore deleted accounts from them.
- Crash reports (Sentry and Firebase Crashlytics) are kept for 90 days and server logs for 7 days.
- Email messages with your suggestions and screenshots received in our mailbox: we delete them when you ask us by email (see option 2).
- Payments: we do not keep payment data or invoices; Google Play handles them and keeps its own billing records under its own policy.
Just delete some data, keep the account?
You do not have to delete everything to reduce the data we hold on you. From the app you can:
- Delete a saved trip: My trips tab → the trip’s trash icon.
- Delete a garage vehicle: Settings → My garage → delete the vehicle.
- Remove your AI preferences: Settings → AI Personalisation (untick the options).
- Remove an emergency contact: Settings → Contacts & Safety → Emergency contacts.
